Science be Damned The Martian

The Martian

the martian is one of my favorite books, the way it is written in the log format is a lot of fun and how it shifts between people perspectives on the events that occurred, i loved when they found out what out that Martina was still alive on the satellite feed and started freaking out. It was really interesting seeing all the real and made up science that went into the story, it felt very believable, especially with the oxygenator and how he used chemistry to break elements apart to create oxygen and water. I'm not sure if it checks out but non the less it's very interesting.

So much goes wrong in this story and as much as I hate how many times hings go from bad to worse it is very realist. Things never seem to go right in survival stories until the very end and it is the same way with this story. I think if things went right more often for Martin, then things would seem less believable. I really want a part 2 to things where someone is stuck on mares and actually colonizes it. Or maybe i just wan to read a book on colonizing other planets, this kinda makes sense because my favorite video game is Subnatica. Which is about being stranded on a alien planet and being forced to survive and uncover the mysteries of the world. Subnatic actually reminds me alot of The Martian in that way, Martin and The player are both stranded on a alien world where they have nothing but there wit and the resources around the to survive. The Hero must learn  and adapt or die trying.

My Favorite part in the book is when Martin uses his botany skills to the test and was able to grow potatoes, and all the trials that come along with the growth of the plants, which end up with him almost blowing up the hub, pooping in a box and spreading dirt all over the floor. It was really interesting how he used the climate outside to preserver the potatoes because the humidity in the hub would rot them. Overall it is thought out so well, that you could really see it happen, it is really by far one of my favorite sci-fi stories due to how well written and built up it was.

  1. I loved the different perspectives, too. It was a nice change of pace. The combination of real and made-up science was engaging for me as well. And now that I think about it, The Martian storyline would make a fun video game!
